Program

“233rd Day, before and after Totality” a computer sonification of a total solar eclipse with live performance by the Kronos Quartet

When the moon passes between the sun and the Earth on August 21, it won’t make a sound—but Exploratorium composer Wayne Grim and Kronos will turn the total solar eclipse into a piece of music unlike any other in real time as the eclipse progresses. Learn how Wayne will make music from a solar eclipse >

This performance will be streamed live on the Exploratorium’s free Total Solar Eclipse App for iOS and Android. The app, which includes information about the eclipse and safe viewing techniques, also allows users to view the eclipse live from their phones and tablets, and share to televisions in HD video.
