Taïga String Quartet plays Garth Knox’s Satellites!

Composer Garth Knox recently sent us this video of the Taïga String Quartet (Louise Gorm, Isabelle Bania, Alice Vaz, and Maria Edlund) performing “Dimensions,” the third movement of his Fifty for the Future string quartet Satellites. Check it out below!

Kronos receives NEA support to distribute free string quartets

Kronos Performing Arts Association and Kronos Quartet are honored to announce that we have received an Art Works’ Media Arts grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to support our ongoing efforts to provide open access to contemporary string quartet scores and parts, recordings, and other instructional and study materials, online and free of charge through Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire!

AVAILABLE NOW! Five new string quartets from Kronos’ Fifty for the Future

As of today, you can now study and learn to play new string quartets written by Raven Chacon, Rhiannon Giddens, Yotam Haber, Joan Jeanrenaud, and Aleksander Kościów! Scores and parts, recordings, and learning materials are now available on our website, free of charge.

Commissioned for Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire, these new pieces join ten previously released works by Franghiz Ali-Zadeh, Ken Benshoof, Fodé Lassana Diabaté, Garth Knox, Nicole Lizée, Kala Ramnath, Tanya Tagaq, Merlijn Twaalfhoven, Aleksandra Vrebalov, and Wu Man. When completed, this collection will feature 50 new works composed by an eclectic, international group of 25 female and 25 male composers, and designed expressly for the training of student quartets and emerging professionals.

Kronos to perform 20th Fifty for the Future premiere in Uppsala, Sweden

We’re headed to Sweden to perform the 20th premiere from Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning RepertoireKarin Rehnqvist‘s “The Riddle” – at Uppsala Konsert & Kongress on Friday. On the same day, we are releasing the next five additions to Kronos’ Fifty for the Future, our ongoing multi-year education and legacy project that is commissioning—and distributing for free—the first learning library of contemporary repertoire for string quartet. Scores and parts, recordings, and supplemental learning materials for new string quartets composed by Raven Chacon, Rhiannon Giddens, Yotam Haber, Joan Jeanrenaud, and Aleksander Kościów will be available online at
