Concerts and Residencies Galore

The past week has been teeming with Kronos’ Fifty for the Future activity, with a concert at Seattle Theater Group (Commissioning Partner), residency at Cornish College of the Arts (Legacy Partner), concerts with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (Commissioning Partner), and Kronos’ first ever Fifty for the Future coaching with students from the VSO School of Music.

Fifty for the Future — Year Two!

With the new year comes a new batch of Kronos’ Fifty for the Future composers and partners!

Kronos Performing Arts Association (KPAA) is excited to announce the 10 composers—five women and five men—who will be participating in Year Two of Kronos’ Fifty for the Future project. Please welcome this eclectic group to the program as they join us in our mission to expand the 21st-century string quartet repertoire for young players.

Kronos Residency at Holland Festival 2016

The Holland Festival announced its 2016 season this week, and we’re pleased to share that Kronos will be joining the lineup as artists-in-residence for one week!

Featuring Kronos’ Fifty for the Future project, the residency will include a concert, where the group will perform many new works and a world premiere; a Listening Party with David Harrington, in which David shares some of his favorite recordings and anecdotes; and “Kronossessions,” a day of public coachings of string quartets from the Netherlands String Quartet Academy, followed by a talkshow and Q&A with Kronos and Kronos’ managing director, Janet Cowperthwaite.

Kronos to Lead Workshop at University of Washington

Kronos is set to lead a workshop at the University of Washington in February 2016, featuring pieces by Kronos’ Fifty for the Future year-one composers Garth Knox and Ken Benshoof, who not only graduated from University of Washington’s School of Music in 1958, but who also joined their faculty as an associate professor of composition until 1992. Since then, Benshoof has stayed on as composer and professor emeritus at UW.

The free workshop will take place Tuesday, February 23 at 3:00 PM in UW’s Brechemin Auditorium. Learn more about the event here.

VSO Announces New Music Festival 2016 featuring Kronos Quartet!

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, a partner in Kronos’ Fifty for the Future project, announced its 3rd annual New Music Festival today, set to take place over four days (February 25–28) at the historic Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver. Dedicated to showcasing works by contemporary composers, this year’s festival welcomes Kronos Quartet as featured artist, as the group performs in both a solo concert and a concert with the orchestra.
