24 Hours of Kronos!

On Monday, March 24, starting at 12:01 am ET, Q2 Music—WQXR’s online music station devoted to 20th and 21st century classical music—presents Kronos at 40. In honor of our 40th anniversary, Q2 showcases a marathon stream of 24 distinct hours of diverse commercial recordings, dynamic, unreleased studio tracks (courtesy of Nonesuch Records) and in-concert performances celebrating the Kronos Quartet’s contributions to 20th and 21st century music.

Nonesuch Releases Clint Mansell’s Soundtrack to Darren Aronofsky Film “Noah”

Nonesuch releases composer Clint Mansell’s score to visionary filmmaker Darren Aronofsky’s film Noah, from Paramount Pictures and Regency Enterprises, on March 25, 2014. Directed by Aronofsky, the film will be released on March 28, 2014. Russell Crowe stars as Noah in the film inspired by the epic story of courage, sacrifice, and hope. The cast stars Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, and Anthony Hopkins. The soundtrack is available to pre-order in the Nonesuch Store. The Noah score is performed by Kronos Quartet, joined by Patti Smith for her song Mercy Is (co-written by Lenny Kaye).

Celebrating 40 years: 5-CD Box Set & New Album

We’re pleased to announce two new releases on our longtime label, Nonesuch Records, in honor of Kronos’ 40th anniversary: Kronos Explorer Series, a box set of five classic albums from five different parts of the world, and A Thousand Thoughts, a new album that looks at Kronos’s geographically wide-ranging sources, featuring music from 14 countries. Kronos at UCLA: March 14 + 15

Kronos heads to Los Angeles this weekend for two performances at Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA! The Friday, March 14th program - a 40th anniversary celebration - features special guests Wu Man and Nels Cline, as well as works by George Crumb, Philip Glass, Krzysztof Penderecki, and more. On Saturday, March 15th, the quartet will be joined by Laurie Anderson for the Los Angeles premiere of her work Landfall.

Nels Cline added to March 14 Los Angeles Show

We’re pleased to announce that Nels Cline (of Wilco, Nels Cline Trio, and much more) has been added to the program for our 40th anniversary show at Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA on March 14th!
