Songlines: 10 Best Albums of 2014

We’re pleased that our album A Thousand Thoughts was selected as one of Songlines’ 10 Best Albums of 2014! Released on Nonesuch Records as part of our 40th anniversary year, A Thousand Thoughts is a look at Kronos’ geographically wide-ranging sources, featuring music from 14 different countries, including China, India, Sweden, and Vietnam. The album includes the four cellists who have been in Kronos Quartet over the last 36 years.

Just Announced: Kronos In Residence at Big Ears Festival

We’re very pleased to announce that Kronos will be Artists-in-Residence at Knoxville’s Big Ears Festival in 2015! Throughout the festival weekend (March 27-29, 2015), Kronos will weave an array of performances, presenting classic contemporary works and a multi-faceted array of musical collaborations with other festival artists. Details of these programs will be announced when the initial Big Ears Festival lineup – encompassing over 50 artists from the worlds of classical, rock, folk, jazz, and beyond – is announced on Tuesday, November 4. Inside the Quartet: Kronos Quartet as Dot Cloud

How does a quartet communicate? Surrounded by a battery of laptops, video cameras, and sensors, The New York Times used 3D-data capture to render Kronos as “dot clouds” in order to dig deeper into cueing, body language, establishing rhythms, and the intricacy of performing as an ensemble.
