NPR Music Premieres Bryce Dessner & Kronos Quartet’s “Aheym” Video

NPR Music is premiering the title track and video from Aheym, the upcoming collaboration between critically acclaimed guitarist from The National and composer Bryce Dessner and Kronos Quartet. The video, directed by visual artist and longtime Dessner collaborator Matthew Ritchie, can streamed/shared here. Ritchie previously worked with Dessner on performance pieces The Long Count, Monstrance, The Morning Line and more. Preorder the album here.

Bryce Dessner and Kronos Quartet Collaborate on ‘Aheym’ - Dessner’s Recorded Debut as a Composer

We’re pleased to announce that Anti- Records will release Aheym: Kronos Quartet Plays Music by Bryce Dessner on November 5, 2013. Bryce Dessner, composer & guitarist from The National and Clogs, makes his recorded debut as composer on the album, which features four original compositions by Dessner performed by Kronos, as well as an appearance by the Brooklyn Youth Chorus.

KRONOS at 40: A Season of Celebration

Kronos Quartet celebrates its 40th anniversary and launches a fifth decade of innovation and exploration with an impressive array of projects and special events during its 2013-14 season. The milestone will be marked by a weeklong residency at Lincoln Center, coast-to-coast birthday concerts, a host of premieres, a Nonesuch CD boxed set, and performances around the globe. During the coming season, the Grammy-winning Quartet and its nonprofit Kronos Performing Arts Association will unveil more than a dozen commissioned works by the likes of Philip Glass, Bryce Dessner (of The National), Aleksandra Vrebalov, Dan Deacon, Mary Kouyoumdjian, David T. Little, and others, plus two film scores and a volume of commissioned works published by Boosey & Hawkes.

Dirty Wars: In Theaters June 7

Just a few months after Dirty Wars premiered at Sundance Film Festival, we’re pleased to announce that the film opens June 7th! The documentary follows investigative journalist Jeremy Scahill, who is pulled into an unexpected journey as he chases down the hidden truth behind America’s expanding covert wars. Kronos recorded music for the film, and David Harrington was the film’s Music Supervisor.

Kronos Quartet Announces Under 30 Project / #5 Composer, Mary Kouyoumdjian

The Kronos Quartet / Kronos Performing Arts Association is pleased to announce the recipient of the fifth Kronos: Under 30 Project commission: Mary Kouyoumdjian. A New York City resident, Kouyoumdjian was chosen from a call for composers that yielded nearly 400 applicants in 43 countries on five continents, the largest response in the program’s history. Launched in 2003, the Under 30 Project is designed to help nurture the careers of young artists, while enabling Kronos to forge stronger connections with the next creative generation.
