2010/2011 Season Announced!
Fall is here and we're excited to announce our 2010/2011 season of tour dates! We'll be performing across the U.S., Europe, and Mexico, so take a look at the full list of dates to see if Kronos will be performing near you! We will announce more concerts later this fall, so stay tuned.
We're thrilled to announce the premiere of a new work written for Kronos by Steve Reich. The work - Reich's third quartet for Kronos - is entitled, WTC 9/11 and will receive its world premiere at Duke Performances (March 19). The piece will have its west coast premiere at the Philharmonic Society of Orange County (April 6), followed by performances at the Clarice Smith Center for the Performing Arts (April 10), and at Carnegie Hall's Music of Steve Reich Festival (April 30.) The European premiere takes place at the Barbican as part of Steve Reich's 75th birthday celebration (May 7).
We're pleased to announce a multi-year partnership in our home town with Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, which begins during the 10/11 season. YBCA will be Kronos’ exclusive San Francisco home for concerts and experimentation for three seasons. Kronos and YBCA will co-produce performances and will co-commission at least three new works during the residency. The partnership launches October 28-29 with the San Francisco premiere of a new staging of George Crumb's Black Angels and the world premiere of a new work by Sahba Aminikia, entitled String Quartet no. 3: A Threnody for Those Who Remain.
Kronos has several other performances planned in our home state: Monterey Jazz Festival this Saturday (Sept 18), a free community concert at Cal Performances in Berkeley (Sept 26), Stanford Lively Arts (Oct 13), and the Mondavi Center in Davis (Dec 9).
Beyond the US we've got many dates planned! We're heading to Mexico next week, with stops in Chihuahua (Sept 21) and Ciudad Juárez (Sept 23.) In November we'll be in Europe, with stops in Basel, Switzerland (Nov 10-11), Wroclaw, Poland (Nov 12), Remchingen, Germany (Nov 14), Sartrouville, France (Nov 16), Strasbourg, France (Nov 18), and Lisbon, Portugal (Nov 21). We will announce more international engagements over the coming months. We've got stops planned at some exciting festivals…stay tuned!
Finally, on October 8 & 9, New Yorkers will have a rare opportunity to hear Kronos in a relaxed and intimate club setting - we're taking the stage for the first time at Le Poisson Rouge! Kronos presents a pair of New York-centric programs featuring five world and three New York premieres. The concerts feature two premieres by Michael Gordon: the world premiere of Exalted featuring the Young People's Chorus of New York City (Oct. 8); and the New York premiere of Clouded Yellow (Oct. 9). The program for October 8 includes the New York premiere of Maria Schneider's String Quartet No. 1, a world premiere by Aleksandra Vrebalov, and works by Bryce Dessner and Missy Mazzoli. On October 9 Kronos is joined by special guest vocalist Judith Berkson for several pieces. Also featured are works by Clint Mansell, J.G. Thirlwell, and Dan Visconti.
