Kronos appears in first ever made-for-TV (and web) opera

KCET, the largest independent television station in the country based in Los Angeles, announced the release dates of Vireo: The Spiritual Biography of a Witch’s Accuser, composed by Lisa Bielawa on a libretto by Erik Ehn and directed by Charles Otte, and featuring over 350 musicians. All 12 episodes of the ambitious made-for-TV-and-internet opera will be made available online on May 31 and be broadcast nationwide on June 13. Visit the official Vireo website>

Kronos is thrilled to appear in the first and final episodes and honored to be part of such and incredible roster of artists, including star Rowen Sabala, San Francisco Girls Chorus, Bridget Kibbey, Jennifer Koh, Joshua Roman, Alarm Will Sound, PRISM Quartet, ACME: American Contemporary Music Ensemble, Deborah Voigt, and so many others.

“Kronos Quartet began this journey with me, in our very first episodes,” says Bielawa, “and so it is fitting that they returned in the final moments of Episode 12. Their care and artistry elevates everyone around them, and it was a thrill to see them partner some of our youngest performers with such respect and collaborative spirit. They have been some of the guiding spirits of the whole Vireo adventure.”

We thank Lisa for inviting us to participate in her dream project!
