Released in 1931, Dracula, directed by Tod Browning and starring Bela Lugosi, may be the most iconic and memorable depiction of Bram Stoker’s vampiric count. The original version of the film featured only a few brief excerpts of music by Tchaikovsky, Wagner, and Schubert. So Universal Studios challenged Philip Glass to create a score to soundtrack the film for the 1999 “Classic Monster Collection” VHS and DVD release. Over the last two decades, we’ve performed the score live to the film with Philip about different 75 times all around the world, even in Romania – the storied birthplace of the undead Transylvanian nobleman. David Harrington, artistic director, violinist, and founder of Kronos said in a recent interview: “em>Dracula is one of the most fun projects we’ve done with live film. We have a really great time performing with Philip!”
