Kronos celebrates His Highness the Aga Khan at Jubilee in London

We are honored to take part in the Diamond Jubilee celebration of His Highness the Aga Khan at the Royal Albert Hall in London on June 20th. This month and next, the Ismaili Muslim Community is commemorating 60 years since the Aga Khan became the 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims on July 11, 1957. Produced by the Ismaili Centre, London, Aga Khan Music Initiative, and Serious, Jubilee! With Kronos Quartet, Bassekou Kouyaté and AKMI Masters will celebrate the diversity, richness and vitality of Muslim musical heritage in a contemporary expression. We are thrilled to share the stage with so many incredible musicians, including Malian ngoni player Bassekou Kouyaté, Chinese pipa player Wu Man, Afghan rubab player Homayoun Sakhi, Syrian duclar player Basel Rajoub, Afghan percussionist Salar Nader, Tajikistani dutar, tanbur and sato performer Sirojiddin Juraev, Syria qanun player Feras Charestan, Uzbekistani percussionist Abbos Kosimov, and Italian frame drummer Andrea Piccioni. Tickets still available, but going quickly.

The Aga Khan Music Initiative and Kronos’ decade-long partnership has fostered many of our collaborations with leading musicians from Muslim-majority countries, including Homayoun Sakhi, the Alim Qasimov Ensemble, Trio Da Kali and, most recently, Sirojiddin Juraev (with frequent collaborator Wu Man).
