Swedish TV takeover

A film of Kronos’ May 5th concert at Uppsala Konsert & Kongress will air on SVT 2 on Saturday, September 23, at 7:40PM. The program will feature recent works by Garth Knox, Aleksandra Vrebalov, Trio Da Kali’s Fodé Lassana Diabaté, Tanya Tagaq, and Nicole Lizée, as well as the world premiere of “The Riddle” by Sweden’s own Karin Rehnqvist. These pieces were composed for Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire, Kronos’ education and legacy project that is commissioning – and distributing for free – the first learning library of contemporary repertoire for string quartet. Kronos Quartet and Kronos Performing Arts Association are grateful to UKK for supporting this project as a Commissioning Partner.

The concert program will also include Terry Riley’s “One Earth, One People, One Love” from Sun Rings, and George S. Crumb’s Black Angels.

Ella Petersson, commissioning editor at SVT, says of the broadcast: “Highlighting chamber music along with newly written pieces is an important part of the work Sveriges Television in offering concert recordings. We consider it our mission to promote the music process of the future. Regardless, the Kronos Quartet has a huge fan base in Sweden and the rest of the world. If we were only going to air one string quartet concert this year, it would still be this one.”
