Kronos Coast to Coast: My Lai, Black Angels, Dracula, and More

Join Kronos, Rinde Eckert and Vân-Ánh Võ at Stanford’s Bing Concert Hall this Saturday, October 10 at 7:30 PM for the world premiere of the concert version of My Lai. Jonathan Berger’s monodrama, with libretto by Harriet Chessman, portrays the 1968 massacre and its aftermath from the perspective of U.S. Army helicopter pilot Hugh Thompson. Buy Tickets

Fall Tour Highlights and Premieres!

After summer tours which included performances at the Roskilde Festival, the Montreaux Jazz Festival, the Cabrillo Festival, and more, Kronos has now started its fall tour!

This season marks the premiere of the first ten works commissioned through Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire. Over the next five years, Kronos, Carnegie Hall and a group of adventurous partners will commission 50 new works (written by 25 men & 25 women) designed for students & emerging professionals. Scores, parts, recordings and other materials will be made available online at no charge, beginning in 2016.

Two World Premieres at The Arts Center at New York University Abu Dhabi

Kronos makes its Gulf Region debut and premieres the first two Fifty for the Future commissions at the The Arts Center at New York University Abu Dhabi, where the group is now in residence (Sept 10-17). Fodé Lassana Diabaté, a master balafon player and member of Mali’s Trio Da Kali, joins Kronos in Abu Dhabi for the world premiere of his work Sunjata’s Time. Longtime Kronos collaborator and pipa virtuoso Wu Man’s new Fifty for the Future piece Four Chinese Paintings also receives its world premiere this week.

2015 ECHO Klassik Awards

Winners of the 2015 ECHO Klassik awards have been announced, and we’re honored to receive the “Classical Without Borders” award for our Nonesuch Records release A Thousand Thoughts. The album, released during our 40th anniversary year, features music from 14 different countries, including China, India, Sweden, and Vietnam. The awards ceremony takes place at Konzerthaus Berlin on October 18th.
