Support Kronos Quartet & Mary Kouyoumdjian: Silent Cranes

Mary Kouyoumdjian’s Silent Cranes is a multimedia piece that will remember those who were massacred and deported during the Armenian Genocide of 1915, and offer hope for a peaceful resolution in the present day. With your support, the Kronos Quartet will be able to fully fund the commissioning of Silent Cranes, which will receive its world premiere on April 29, 2015 in Armenia during the Yerevan Perspectives 16th International Music Festival.

San Francisco International Film Festival - Beyond Zero: 1914-1918

The San Francisco International Film Festival has announced their 2015 lineup, and we’re honored that Beyond Zero: 1914-1918 was selected to be part of this year’s festival! The work for quartet with film features music by Aleksandra Vrebalov and film by Bill Morrison. Tickets go on sale this Friday at noon PT.

Big Ears Festival Kicks Off Today

Big Ears Festival‬ kicks off in Knoxville TODAY! Kronos is Big Ears’ Artists-in-Residence, and throughout the festival weekend, Kronos will weave an array of performances, presenting classic contemporary works and a multi-faceted array of musical collaborations with other festival artists. We’re pleased to be able to perform with so many of our friends in just three days: Laurie Anderson, Terry Riley, Tanya Tagaq, Nels Cline, Rhiannon Giddens, Sam Amidon, Wu Man, and Bryce Dessner!

Songlines Music Awards Nomination

Songlines Music Awards nominations are out today, and we’re pleased to be nominated alongside Nonesuch Records label mates Robert Plant and Toumani & Sidiki Diabaté! Our album “A Thousand Thoughts,” which features music from 14 different countries including China, India, Sweden, and Vietnam, is nominated for Cross-Cultural Collaboration of the Year.

We’re pleased to announce Tundra Songs  - a new album featuring the music of Canadian composer Derek Charke - which is out now on Centrediscs, the label of the Canadian Music Centre. Tanya Tagaq, the Polaris Prize-winning Inuit throat singer appears on the title track. The album also includes Cercle du Nord III, which incorporates environmental sounds from northern Canada, four of Charke’s series of Inuit Throat Song Games, and storyteller Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory’s telling of the tale of Sedna.
