As of today, you can now learn to play new string quartets written by Ken Benshoof, Nicole Lizée, Kala Ramnath, Tanya Tagaq, and Merlijn Twaalfhoven! Scores and parts, recordings, and additional learning materials are now available on our website, free of charge.
Commissioned for Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire, these join previously released works by Franghiz Ali-Zadeh, Fodé Lassana Diabaté, Garth Knox, Aleksandra Vrebalov, and Wu Man. When completed in 2020, this collection will feature 50 new works composed by an eclectic, international group of 25 female and 25 male composers. Kronos’ Fifty for the Future is devoted to the most contemporary approaches to the string quartet and designed expressly for the training of students and emerging professionals.

We are thrilled to announce the lineup, set lists, and artist-in-residence of our third annual hometown music festival KRONOS FESTIVAL 2017: Here and Now, which takes place February 2–4 at the SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco. With six concerts over three days, our self-produced KRONOS FESTIVAL 2017 showcases the latest innovations of the Bay Area’s contemporary music community. Composer Aleksandra Vrebalov’s meditative, majestic, and inspirational The Sea Ranch Songs is available now as a CD/DVD set, as well as for digital download and streaming. Explore the spirit, nature, and architecture of The Sea Ranch – a grand experiment in environmental stewardship, land development, and intentional community planning on the Northern California coast – through this sumptuous multimedia work that includes a dreamlike cinematic exploration by videographer Andrew Lyndon.

Over 20 years ago, we released the first string quartet album ever dedicated entirely to African composers – Pieces of Africa – on Nonesuch Records. Today, the acclaimed, chart-topping hit record was re-released as an actual record for the very first time. Mondo, which creates limited edition screen printed posters for classic and contemporary films, television shows and comics, along with vinyl movie soundtracks, VHS re-issues, toys, and apparel, announced that they are releasing The Fountain - Original Motion Picture on 180 gram vinyl this November in celebration of the film’s 10th anniversary. Clint Mansell (Requiem for a Dream) composed the Golden Globe-nominated score to Darren Aronofsky’s abstract science fiction fantasia for Kronos and the Scottish post-rock band Mogwai. The vinyl reissue was remastered by John Webber at AIR Studios London, includes all new liner notes and an interview with composer Clint Mansell, and features new artwork from Nicole Gustafsson.
