Kronos Festival 2019 continues with the return of experimental duo CocoRosie. Kronos reunites with the Casady sisters on stage for a set of their songs, performed with the San Francisco Girls Chorus. Jherek Bischoff, known for his solo work as well as collaborations with Amanda Palmer, Mirah, and Meow Meow, joins Kronos on bass guitar to perform a set of his compositions. He has described his work for Kronos as “ecstatic and more uplifting than anything I have written before. I think that owes to the fact that it is a joyful exercise to write for Kronos Quartet, the ensemble that introduced me to the world of classical music.” Filmmaker Sam Green, who Kronos regularly tours with to perform the live documentary A Thousand Thoughts, enlists Kronos in Por Vida!, a live documentary short about the San Francisco legacy business Casa Sanchez. Highlighting Kronos’ Fifty for the Future open access education initiative, the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts’ Dragon Saxophone Quintet performs music by Malian musician Fodé Lassana Diabaté (of Trio Da Kali).
