Kronos Quartet’s Pete Seeger @ 100
with special guests Brian Carpenter, Lee Knight, Meklit, Aoife O’Donovan, and San Francisco Girls Chorus, directed by Valérie Sainte-Agathe
Program to be announced from the stage.
From the Hardly Strictly website: “For 45 years, San Francisco’s Kronos Quartet – David Harrington (violin), John Sherba (violin), Hank Dutt (viola), and Sunny Yang (cello) – has pursued a singular artistic vision, combining a spirit of fearless exploration with a commitment to continually reimagine the string quartet experience. Pete Seeger, who would have turned 100 years old this May, lived through the tumultuous 20th century as a force for kindness, humility, and good. His pursuits reflected the complexity of the times through the lens of music. Kronos Quartet will create a multi-artist exploration of Seeger’s musical legacy. The group will collaborate with composers, guest vocalists and fellow musicians, to re-imagine the songs that Seeger popularized and celebrate his place in the landscape of American music.”
Kronos Quartet’s Music for Change: Pete Seeger @ 100 was commissioned by the FreshGrass Foundation for the 2019 FreshGrass Festival at MASS MoCA.
