Kronos to receive prestigious Dutch career achievement award later this month

The Kronos Quartet is honored to be awarded the Ouevreprijs for career achievement by the Edison Foundation at the annual Edison Klassiek Awards. Kronos previously received Edisons for the albums Black Angels in 1991 and Kronos Caravan in 2001. With the Ouevreprijs, it is being honored for its achievements over the past 46 years. “Since the first performance in 1973,” says the award jury, “Kronos Quartet has recorded more than 50 albums, invariably filled with new notes for the string quartet. It is high time to crown this unique achievement with an Edison Klassiek Ouevreprijs.”

One of the oldest music awards in the world, the Edison Awards are the annual Dutch prizes given for outstanding achievements in the music industry. The classical music category awards will be presented in a ceremony and concert in Amsterdam during the live broadcast of Podium Witteman on NPO 2 on Sunday, November 24. Kronos will perform live during the ceremony.

UPDATE: You can now watch the ceremony and concert on NPO Start.
