Kaufman Music Center Launches Program for Female Composers

The Kaufman Music Center’s Face the Music program (Kronos’ Fifty for the Future Legacy Partner and KPAA Institutional Partner) in New York City has teamed up with Missy Mazzoli, Ellen Reid, Reena Esmail—a frequent arranger for and collaborator with Kronos—and Kristin Kuster to launch the Luna Composition Lab, an incredible new program developed to inspire girls and young women to compose. The Luna Lab aims to address the lack of female role models and a lack of encouragement by connecting participants with established female professionals who will provide one-on-one mentorship and lessons throughout the year. Over the course of each term, each young composer will create a new piece of music to be performed at a concert at the end of the term.

We can’t wait to see what great female composers and compositions emerge from this program! To learn more about the Luna Composition Lab, click here.
