Kronos: Under 30 Project / #5 - Details Announced

We are pleased to announce the details of the 5th edition of the Kronos: Under 30 Project! The Kronos: Under 30 Project is a commissioning program designed to support the creation of new music by young artists. The deadline is November 16, 2012, and you can download the application here.

The Kronos: Under 30 Project was created in 2003, Kronos’ 30th anniversary year, to support the creation of new work by young artists, and to help Kronos cultivate stronger connections and develop lasting artistic relationships with the next creative generation. Four pieces have been commissioned through Kronos: Under 30 so far. Since the program’s inception, nearly 1,000 applications from 49 countries on six continents have been received.

Kronos will review all the applications and select the composer to whom they feel most artistically committed. That composer will be commissioned to write a new work for the quartet, which will premiere in Spring 2014 as a part of Kronos’ 40th anniversary season. Applications are open to all composers, regardless of nationality, who are under 30 years of age as of November 16, 2012. The selected composer must be able to complete the new work by December 2013.

Over the past 10 years, four composers from three different countries - Alexandra du Bois, Felipe Pérez Santiago, Dan Visconti, and Aviya Kopelman - have been commissioned. The artistic relationships established through the Under 30 Project have been invaluable, and these commissioned works have been performed all over the world.
