Big Star tribute concert film and album released today!April 21, 2017

The concert film and album Thank You, Friends: Big Star’s THIRD Live… And More has been released today by Concord Records and Bicycle Music Company. We are honored to have been part of this live tribute to Big Star, the short lived 1970s Memphis-based band who have had an outsized influence on modern American rock. One of the best things about this project has been getting to know and play with such an amazing group of musicians united by their love of these songs, including Big Star’s Jody Stephens, Chris Stamey of the dB’s, R.E.M.’s Mike Mills, Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, Semisonic’s Dan Wilson, The Posies’ Ken Stringfellow and Jon Auer, Yo La Tengo’s Ira Kaplan, and so many more.

Kronos performs live at debut of Guy Maddin’s new filmApril 17, 2017

On Sunday, we performed live the soundtrack for the debut of The Green Fog for a packed, energetic Castro Theatre audience in San Francisco. The new film, directed by Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson, and Galen Johnson, with score by Jacob Garchik, is a dreamy, irreverent visual collage fashioned from dozens of films shot or set in SF that creates a “parallel-universe version” of Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo. This project was specially commissioned by SFFILM and Stanford Live to close out the 60th anniversary of the San Francisco International Film Festival. Thanks also to our friends at Exploratorium, where we rehearsed for the world premiere.
