Fifty in a nutshell

Celebratory opening of Kronos’ 50 for the Future Weekend with the Animato Kwartet, the Attacca Quartet, and The Learning Orchestra, and the composers Merlijn Twaalfhoven and Paul Wiancko.

 

Concert I: Legacy
Grote Zaal / 2:30 – 3:30pm
Kronos Quartet will perform works by Guillermo Galindo, Aruna Narayan, Rafiq Bhatia, Joan Jeanrenaud, Peni Candra Rini and Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté.
The Kronos Quartet kicks off with a striking selection of pieces from the great legacy they have brought to the musical world.

 

Concert II: From the Book
BIMHUIS / 4:00 – 4:50pm
Ragazze Quartet will perform works by Yevgeniy Sharlat.
Matangi Quartet will perform works by Yotam Haber, Wu Man and Stephan Thelen.
The Ragazze Quartet and the Matangi Quartet will perform a programme in which words and images inspired the work of the composers.

 

Workshop
Atriumzaal / 4:00 – 4:50pm
Kronos Quartet meets Leerorkest: the youngest string quartets of The Netherlands, from the Learners Orchestra, will receive a workshop from the members of the Kronos Quartet.

Talk 1: In conversation with the Kronos Quartet

Kleine Zaal / 4:00-4:50pm
Moderator: Andrew Makkinga

Kronos’ 50 for the Future is one of the Kronos Quartet’s greatest achievements, with the renowned quartet commissioning works from fifty composers worldwide. The result of this ambitious undertaking is a rich, open source catalog of scores, specifically designed for young professionals in the middle of the 21st century. The Kronos Quartet tells.

Concert III: The Philosopher’s Gaze
Grote Zaal / 5:15 – 6:15pm
Belinfante Quartet will play works by Misato Mochizuki, Trey Spruance and Ken Benshoof Animato Kwartet will play works by Aleksander Kościów and Karin Rehnqvist. The Belinfante Quartet and the Animato Kwartet will present music with a philosophical or spiritual foundation.

ATTENTION: Parallel programming will take place throughout Kronos’ 50 for the Future Weekend, divided over the Grote Zaal, the Kleine Zaal, the Atriumzaal and the BIMHUIS. Each hall has a different capacity, some of them limited, so make sure you arrive on time at the event of your choice.
