Concert VII: What’s New?
Grote Zaal / 10:30 – 11:45AM
ADAM Quartet will play works by Aleksandra Vrebalov.
Belinfante Quartet will play works by Trey Spruance.
Students from the Sweelinck Academy will take to the stage and contribute new works that they developed during their educational project, “So You Think You Can Write a Strijkkwartet (String Quartet)?!” Aleksandra Vrebalov will discuss her composition process for “My Desert, My Rose.”
Concert VIII: Eve

Animato Kwartet will play works by Karin Rehnqvist.
Signum Quartett will play works by Alexandra Du Bois, Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté and Angélique Kidjo.
Ruysdael Kwartet will play works by Onuté Narbutaité.
Until now the string quartet canon mostly consisted of repertoire composed by men, In Eve, all the pieces were composed by women.
Talk 3: Where the oral tradition meets the classical (in English)

The British ethnomusicologist Lucy Durán has spent two thirds of her life dedicated to studying Malian music and working with Malian musicians. She is intimately familiar with the work of the balafon player Fodé Lassana Diabaté, who will be joining us from Mali to demonstrate how one of the oldest West African instruments works.
Masterclass Kronos Quartet

Kronos Quartet has commissioned over 1,000 compositions and worked with hundreds of composers over the past 50 years. In this masterclass they share their experience with young up-and-coming quartets. Those who want to know more about the future of string quartet playing should join us on Sunday morning.

Student composers from the Amsterdam, Den Haag and Utrecht conservatories will meet the Kronos 50 for the Future composers who are present and will take part in a series of speed dates with the composers, sharing their own compositions for the first time.
ATTENTION: Parallel programming will take place throughout Kronos’ 50 for the Future Weekend, divided over the Grote Zaal, the Kleine Zaal, the Atriumzaal and the BIMHUIS. Each hall has a different capacity, some of them limited, so make sure you arrive on time at the event of your choice.
