Kronos releases official music video for One Earth, One People, One Love

Two months ago, Nonesuch Records released the first full recording of Sun Rings, composed by Terry Riley for string quartet, chorus and pre-recorded spacescapes and performed by Kronos with the vocal ensemble Volti. Today, we release the official music video for the final movement “One Earth, One People, One Love,” which features the voices of astronaut Gene Cernan and poet Alice Walker. The “One Earth, One People, One Love” film was commissioned for Kronos by the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional support was provided by Treatment Studio, London.

Having now performed Sun Rings nearly 50 times in 11 countries and 18 states, Kronos first performed Sun Rings with Kantorei, conducted by Dr. Timothy Stalter, 17 years ago this past Saturday at the University of Iowa’s Hancher Auditorium. Kronos performs Sun Rings next at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, on November 9 and at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., presented by Washington Performing Arts, on March 13.

Sun Rings was commissioned for the Kronos Quartet by the NASA Art Program, the National Endowment for the Arts, Rockefeller Foundation’s Multi-Arts Production Fund, Hancher Auditorium/University of Iowa, Society for the Performing Arts, Eclectic Orange Festival/Philharmonic Society of Orange County, SFJAZZ, Barbican Centre, London, U.K., Texas Performing Arts at The University of Texas at Austin (with the support of the Topfer Endowment for Performing Arts), and BAM.
