Kronos Quartet
“It’s really exciting, because it gives you the opportunity to work with a top ensemble, a top quartet. It gives you the opportunity to hear your music played as you always imagined it. Knowing that the Kronos Quartet is a formation that is used to playing contemporary music and especially in promoting new music is very interesting because you know that you can experiment, and you can really explore new sounds, and you can explore the different possibilities of the instruments and the music, and you know you’re going to get the best performance possible.”
Kronos: Under 30 Project is a commissioning and mentoring program for young composers under the age of 30. Launched in 2003, it is designed to help nurture the careers of emerging artists, while enabling the Kronos Quartet to forge stronger connections with the next creative generation. Since its inception, five composers from three countries – Alexandra du Bois (USA), Felipe Pérez Santiago (Mexico), Dan Visconti (USA), Aviya Kopelman (Israel), and Mary Kouyoumdjian (USA) – were commissioned. These new works have been championed by Kronos in major venues all over the world and four have been recorded and collected here.
